While the number of COVID-19 patients is not going down, people are feeling safe. Jobs are to be taken care of and friends are to be seen sometimes. At such a time of uncertainty, what precautions should you take? Here are some facts to remember before stepping out to resume ‘normal’ activities in the midst of the pandemic:
Essential Safety Guidelines for Unlock 5
If you are planning to leave the house and travel, or simply run some errands, avoiding other people is not possible. In this case, a basic safety protocol needs to be followed stringently under Unlock 5 as most of India opens up.
Mind your hands
The most important safety tip to prevent Covid-19 is to be mindful of what your hands are touching. When outside of a safe, sanitised environment, one must abstain from touching the face at all. Secondly, carrying a sanitiser or washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is a safety mandate prescribed by leading healthcare organisations. If you are using a hand sanitizer, it must contain at least 60% alcohol.
Avoid close contact
It’s essential to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from any other person. This is about two arms length. If the space you are in is crowded and social distancing is not possible, ensure that your nose and mouth are properly covered with a well-fitting mask. However, it is important to note that a mask is not to be substituted for social distancing unless absolutely necessary.
Cleaning and disinfecting
In a public space, one must avoid unnecessarily touching common surfaces like handles, doorknobs, table surfaces, phones, switches, countertops, toilet faucets and any other shared contact surfaces. This also applies to grocery shops, stores, restaurants and any other public space where you may be exposed to unknown people. In case of such a contact, one must immediately wash hands or use a sanitiser. It is safe to say that if you are stepping out, you should carry a sanitiser and use it frequently. Stay safe at the cinema
It’s imperative to know that the vaccine is not in sight yet and people are being affected. Hence, only step out to a place that seems safe to you. Avoid crowded cinemas. Make sure you do not visit a cinema in a containment zone. They are not allowed to open up. Cover your face with a mask and don’t buy your ticket at the counter.
What To Do When You Are Back Home
Once you are back at home, there are additional safety protocols to be followed to prevent an infection. There should be a designated spot in the house where everything that comes from outside – shopping bags, groceries, the clothes you wore to go outside, shoes, the mask you wore, keys, helmets, handbags – should be placed to be sanitised.
